Jisc today welcomed the announcement by   Higher Education Funding Council for England’s   (HEFCE),   the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for Employment and Learning that from 2016 they will expect all articles submitted to the   Research Excellence Framework   (REF), a system for assessing the quality of research, to be available by   open access . This framework will be used by the HEFCE, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland to inform the selective allocation of their research funding to higher education institutions. Sustaining digital collections: finding future funding | Jisc : There has been much debate about how we might help secure the future of digital scholarship for the next generation of learners, teachers and researchers. The business end of how this might be achieved in regards revenue generation beyond host institutional support remains a challenge. Part of this debate raises concerns whether future generations will have access to and use of digital collections: those from galleries, libraries, archives and museums within and outside our universities. The focus has mostly been on digital curation and preservation but now is also the time to consider how revenue generation, beyond host institution support, can be achieved. Overview This project aims to move the MAGIC Mathematics lecture recordings from the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 academic years from the at risk CREW repository to the MAGIC website, with a backup held in the JORUM repository service. The CREW repository can no longer be used for this purpose as it is currently being held on development servers which are to be repurposed for further development projects. Additionally, the staff maintaining these servers are software engineers who are concentrating on other work, and so are only maintaining the servers and service on a best-efforts basis. The MAGIC lecture recordings are a valuable resource of around 900 postgraduate mathematics lectures which are usable by students who were unable to attend the lectures, or who wish to review past material, and also by students at institutions out with MAGIC, who would not otherwise be able to see the lectures. overview The RDInfo Project is aimed at transitioning the world-class RDInfo knowledgebase from a vulnerable Department of Health (DH), National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) grant supported position into a sustainable institutionally supported model. This involves transfer of the current web platform into the Leeds Information Systems Services (ISS) infrastructure from a private host site and the creation of a sustainable subscription based service. The business model is based on the assumption that access to the service if fully funded through partners can be made free to . ac.uk  (University of Leeds funded) and . nhs.uk  (DH/NIHR funded) registered users but on a paid subscription basis for other users and institutions both National and International. Three things came together I wanted a new personal web site, ideally with blogging options; I don't want to pay for it; and I have been blogging about some of these tools, issues, for and around sustainable website so I want to do another site . Which tool? There are a variety of tools of that could have been used ( http://websitesustainability.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/nuffield-bursary-studentship-web.html )  but I went for Weebly.com because of the reasons mentioned in previously postings; but essentially I am not web designer and I wanted something quick with a reasonable URL.  So welcome to  http://scottjturner.weebly.com/   What did I find new to me?
